Tired of having to replace your roof every few years because of hail damage? Upgrading to a rubber roof can provide you with the highest level of protection.
In Oklahoma City, homeowners are all too familiar with the severe weather conditions that strike year after year. Frequent hail storms and severe weather events lead to recurring roof damage and high replacement costs. Even with full coverage homeowner’s insurance, the cost of deductibles and increasing yearly premiums is a lot to budget for.
The good news is that hail-resistant roofs do exist and are worth considering if you’re in a hail-prone area like Oklahoma City.
One of our recent projects included working with the Hall Family in OKC who chose to upgrade their roof to rubber shingles after experiencing 7 severe hail storms in just 5 years. This case study highlights their experience and benefits of a durable and environmentally sustainable roofing solution with the help of Triple Diamond Construction.
Background
Location: Norman, OK
Roof Type: Rubber Shingles
Project Type: Residential
The Hall Family’s home had endured a significant number of severe weather events over the past five years. These storms caused extensive damage to their asphalt shingle roof, leading to frequent replacements and high insurance deductibles. Despite having a replacement cost insurance policy that covered the roof replacements, the repeated need for filing claims and the associated costs were burdensome.
Hail Storms That Impacted The Hall Family’s Home
Understanding what level of hail damage protection the Hall Family needed was fairly easy. Using a forensic weather database, we traced the homeowner’s address to several large weather events. The most notable storms included:
May 5, 2019 – 1.25” hail
August 31, 2020 – 1.25” hail
October 10, 2021 – 2.5” hail
May 2, 2022 – 1” hail
June 8, 2022 – 1.25” hail
April 19, 2023 – 1.25” hail
July 8, 2023 – 1.25” hail
Hail upwards of 2” is not uncommon in Oklahoma City and the storm impact report at the Hall Family’s location showed that at least one storm produced hail that size. With this data, we were able to help the Hall Family decide what type of impact-resistant roofing was available to safeguard against future storms.
The Challenge
Frustrated with the ongoing cycle of damage and replacement, The Hall Family sought a more permanent solution. They needed a roofing material that could withstand the severe weather conditions in Oklahoma City, reduce their insurance claims, and save on deductible costs. Their goal was to find a durable, cost-effective, and environmentally friendly roofing option.
The Solution
After extensive research, The Hall Family decided to upgrade their roof to Euroshield, an impact-resistant roofing shingle made of recycled tires. Euroshield is renowned for its durability and environmental sustainability. The shingles are designed to withstand hail up to 2+ inches in diameter and come with a standard 50-year warranty.
In addition to enhanced protection against future hail storms, this roof qualifies most homeowners for discounts on their homeowner’s insurance.
Rubber Roof Installation
Triple Diamond Construction took on the task of replacing The Hall Family’s damaged asphalt shingle roof with the Euroshield rubber roof. The installation process was seamless, and the new roof immediately provided enhanced protection against severe weather.
Unlike other hail-resistant roofing materials, no reinforcement or modifications had to be made to their existing roof. In addition, the rubber roof shingles were installed similar to how asphalt shingles are installed and even have the look of architectural cedar shake tiles!
The Hall Family was particularly impressed with the professional service and expertise offered by the Triple Diamond Construction team.
Results and Benefits
The upgrade to the Euroshield roof has yielded significant benefits for The Hall Family:
- Cost Savings: By reducing the need for frequent roof replacements, the Hall Family has saved substantially on insurance deductibles and out-of-pocket expenses.
- Durability: The Euroshield roof has proven its resilience against severe weather conditions, providing peace of mind and long-term protection.
- Environmental Impact: Made from recycled tires, Euroshield is an eco-friendly roofing solution that reduces waste and promotes sustainability.
- Insurance Benefits: With an impact-resistant roof, The Hall Family has seen a reduction in their insurance premiums, further contributing to their overall savings.
